What Is A Good Way To Curl Really Long Dreadlocks?

by Tiffany
(California)

Q: I have been growing my locs for 8 years and have tried different styles. I am looking for an easy way to curl my locs.

A: Hi Tiffany. Can I please first say that you and your hair are gorgeous and your little mini-me is a total cutie!

Now back to the question. I'll give you the bad news first, which is that there's no "easy" way to curl locs as long as yours.

But here's the good news, it can be done and that's by using flexi rods to do your set. You'd need to get the blue ones because your hair is so long. You might also need to get some help to put them in depending on how easy it is for you to handle your own hair.

There's a video on this page (check the link below) where I show you how to do it, and even though I did it on straight hair the same rules apply (leave out the end papers though because you don't need them).

How To Use Flexi Rods

If you have a bonnet dryer I'd strongly recommend you sit under it for an hour or so to get the drying process started. Depending on how thick and long your hair is it could take a very long time to dry and that's the hardest part to deal with.

If you want to try a crinkly look rather than a curly look you can do a braid out on your locs. The good part about it is that you can wear the braids for a few days (while they dry) and then have a totally different hairstyle once you take them down.

Check this page for some info on how to do that (video coming soon!).

Hope this helps.
