Vitamins do indeed help your hair grow longer and stronger, but sifting through them to find the ones that are good for our hair isn’t easy. Sometimes it gets downright confusing.

It takes a lot of research, trial and error to figure out which vitamins for promoting hair growth work and which don't.

Let’s look at the essential vitamins that support fast, healthy hair growth and how they do it.

Essential Vitamins For Promoting Hair Growth


Biotin

  • The number one hair health supplement.
  • Promotes hair growth and prevents hair and skin from drying out.
  • Increases hair elasticity and reduces breakage.
  • Makes hair strands thicker over time.
  • Prevents and combats hair loss.

You can find Biotin in liver, eggs, rice and milk, but if you take a supplement the recommended dosage is 150mcg 3 times a day.


Inositol

  • Keeps hair follicles (roots) healthy and strong.
  • Is vital for hair growth.

You can get Inositol from eating liver, brewers yeast, citrus fruits and whole grains. The recommended dosage is 200mcg twice a day.


Vitamin A

  • Helps your body produce oils that make hair and scalp healthy.

Vitamin A can be found in fish oils, meat, milk, cheese and eggs and the recommended dosage is 5,000IU.

Never take over 25,000IU per day. At that level it becomes toxic and causes your hair to fall out!


Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

  • Helps promote scalp circulation.

Tasty proteins like fish, chicken, turkey and meat contain Vitamin B3, so eat up! For hair growth the recommended dosage is 50mg 3 times a day.


Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)

  • Prevents graying and hair loss.

Get Vitamin B5 from whole grains, brewer's yeast, organ meats and egg yolks or take a supplement that gives the recommended dosage of 100mg 3 times a day.


Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)

  • Prevents hair loss.
  • Slows down the hair graying.

Get Vitamin B6 from brewer's yeast, whole grains, egg yolks and organ meats. For best results take 50mg 3 times per day.


Vitamin B12

  • Prevents hair falling out from the root prematurely.

Vitamin B12 is in chicken, fish, eggs and milk and the recommended dose is 2mg per day.


Vitamin C

  • Important for your hair and scalp.
  • Improves circulation and brings nutrients to your hair follicles.

Vitamin C is in citrus fruits, strawberries, pineapples, tomatoes and green peppers. The recommended daily amount is 60mg.


Vitamin E

  • Enhances scalp circulation.

Vegetable oils, wheat germ oil, raw nuts, seeds and leafy greens all contain Vitamin E. The recommended daily amount is 400IU.
