How To Maintain Curly Weave

by Chae

Q: How do I maintain curly weave and prevent it from becoming fuzzy?

There are two main reasons why curly hair becomes fuzzy.

1. Too Much Handling (touching, combing, brushing).

Curls are delicate things and excessive styling is the fastest way to make them fall apart.

Keep touching the hair to a minimum as much as possible, especially after washing so they'll spring back to their original form.

If you're pressed for time and need to dry it fast use a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment. This way your curls won't frizz or flatten.

To style curls use the scrunching method and your fingers rather than a comb and brush.

Check out this page for some more on the scrunching method for styling curly or wavy hair.

2. Lack Of Moisture

Dryness is another major issue to frizzy curls.

The shape of the curls will only form if they're bathed in the right amount of moisture and sealed with the right amount of "product".

Use the right leave-in conditioners designed for curls (real or weave) and make sure that before you sleep at night you put a silk or satin scarf over your hair because the cotton pillow WILL have you looking like Buckwheat when you wake up in the morning.

Last but not least, curly weave styles aren't meant to be worn for long periods of time. After maybe 6-8 weeks you have to just get rid of that hair and get a different set (that length of time is pushing it for most people too).
