by Janaki
(Kochi,Kerala,India)

I am 13 yrs old and have hair to my shoulders. For the past 1 year my hair hasn’t grown or I am not satisfied with the growth. I want it to my chest at least. Please help me and recommend only cheap products please.

It's mainly about care...not products!

Hi Janaki!

Truth be told when it comes to hair it’s not all about using expensive designer products. Healthy longer hair is 10% products and 90% care.

I have no idea what you normally do with your hair on a daily basis or if you have relaxed or natural hair so if you could share that information with me it would help a lot more to design a regimen for you.

Until then…the basics of healthy hair care though are to wash your hair once or twice a week using a moisturizing shampoo and deep conditioner, use gentle heat like from a bonnet dryer or if you don’t have one, a warm towel draped around your hair (hair under a plastic cap with conditioning treatment first).

This is great because it helps the conditioner to really penetrate the hair and do its work properly. Use a protein conditioner once every 4-6 weeks to build the strength of your hair up and prevent damage.

Avoid flat irons and curling irons like the plague and if you do get your hair chemically straightened try not to do it more often than every 8-10 weeks (12 to 16 is better).

The rules for products are to use a gentle but moisturizing shampoo, a rich thick deep conditioner and a moisturizing daily hairdress on your hair ends every day to keep them moisturized.

Try to keep your hands out of your hair as much as you can and also wear your hair up and off of your clothes to keep the ends from rubbing, splitting and breaking on your clothes.

In terms of product lines, I’m partial to Carol’s Daughter, Kera Care and Mizani.

You can also purchase and use natural oils to condition your hair like coconut and olive oils (they’re nice and cheap also!).

Need some advice.

Yes, I was in a car accident, and they had to take a little patch out my head alway to the core. And that was 2 years ago my hair is growing back a little, but not that much. Also my hair is thin and hardly will not grow, I really need your help on growing my hair thicker and longer.

What are you doing to your hair right now?

I'm sorry to hear about your accident and happy to know you're better now.

Please give me an idea of the products you use and how you take care of your hair everyday and I'll help you make your hair grow longer and thicker.
