How To Darken Bleached Hair

by Diane
(United States)

Q: I had my hair professionally bleached with brown undertones.

I want it a dark brown all over. Can this be achieved or is this too much chemical.

A: Hi Diane. You can definitely get a darker tone to your hair, but you should NEVER use a permanent coloring agent over your already bleached hair. If you do you're just begging for it to fall out.

What you need to look for is a temporary color or "rinse" that you'll use over your hair.

What it does is coat the shaft of the hair and overpower the lighter color in it making it look dark and rich all over.

There aren't any permanent effects from it and it washes out after about 10-15 shampoos. You can also reapply it as needed and it won't cause a problem for your hair's health.

There's a bonus too in that a lot of the rinses out there are actually very conditioning to hair.

Here's a tip: When you put the rinse in, sit under a bonnet dryer with a plastic cap for 20-30 minutes and that really helps the color to last a lot longer.
