Herbs for Hair Growth

There are many great herbs for hair growth that can give you the results you want as an addition to the rest of your hair growth regimen. Using herbs are a great way to add a natural and holistic spin to your hair regimen. If you like making your own shampoos and hair products you can really get into learning about and having fun with them.

The many herbs for hair growth share common properties that help with improving your hair. They help to reduce the amount of hair loss you could have, simulate your hair follicle growth, improve the circulation of blood to your scalp as well and nourish and strengthen your hair.

Best Herbs for Hair Growth

Sage Rosemary Chamomile
Catnip Parsley Nettle
Yarrow Lavender Ginko Biloba
Green Tea Ginseng Aloe

There are a few ways you can include herbs for hair growth in your hair regimen, like using them in shampoos, rinses and oil conditioners. Here are some tips for making your own herbal hair products.

Herbal Shampoo

Use this simple mixture just like you would any other shampoo. If you let it sit on your hair and scalp for a little longer than you would normally you'll get more benefit from it.

  • Take a heaping teaspoon of Sage, Rosemary and Nettle (or any other 3 herbs you like).
  • Add them to ¼ cup of boiling water and let steep for 20-30 minutes.
  • Strain and add this tea to ¼ cup of baby shampoo.
  • Mix thoroughly and use.

Herbal Rinse

Making any herbal rinse is really simple. Using them will leave your hair smooth, silky and smelling divine.

  • Take a heaping teaspoon of Sage, Rosemary and Nettle (or any other herbs you'd prefer).
  • Add them to 2 cups of boiling water and let steep for 20-30 minutes.
  • Cool to slightly above room temperature and pour over hair as a final rinse.

Herbal Oil Infusion

Use herbal oil infusions for your scalp massages, hot oil treatments and also for daily use in your hair regimen. Keep in mind that it takes longer for the herbs to infuse with oils than with water so whip up a batch of your oil a good week or two before you'll need to use it.

To make your oil infusion you'll need the following things:

herbs for hair growth mortar and pestleA cup of carrier oil (extra virgin olive, sunflower, soy or peanut)

¾ cup herbs

A medium pot

A metal saucer

A wide mouth jar

A container

  • Put a pot of water on to boil and put the metal saucer over it using the indirect heat to create a double boiler.
  • Take ¼ cup of 2-3 different herbs and put them in the metal saucer along with the cup of oil of your choice.
  • Heat the mixture for 30 minutes on low heat.
  • Pour the mixture into a wide mouth jar and cover with thick gauze cloth secured with an elastic band.
  • Put the jar in a warm place for a week or two, stirring daily.
  • Strain infused oil and place into an airtight container and use when needed.
BWBC Tip: Store your herbal oil infusion in a dark place in a sterilized air tight clear glass/plastic container for longest shelf life.

Beauty Tip Of The Day

Don't believe the hype! Going long periods without washing your hair won't make it grow. It'll just make it very dirty.

Wash your hair every 3-4 days for optimum health.
