What Can Our Hair Growth Rates Tell Us?
How hair growth rates affect your length potential.
Do you know how fast your hair grows?
Your hair is always growing (even when it doesn't seem like it) and your growth rate dictates how fast and long it can grow.
To find figure yours out, take care of your hair and keep it from breaking off. After a few months measure to see how many inches you've gained.
Let’s look at some of the things that can change how fast your hair grows.
What Factors Affect Our Hair Growth Rates?
Season
- Hair grows faster in the spring and summer than in fall and winter. If you think about nature and natural cycles it's not too hard to understand how that works.
Temperature
- Hair grows faster in warm temperatures than cold because your metabolism is speds up. Warm climates = faster metabolism = faster hair growth.
Genetics
- If your mother and father have fast growing hair, chances are you'll have it too. Some people have hair that seems to grow as fast as they can cut it. If that’s you, thank your lucky stars (and ancestors).
Health
- A healthy body produces hair growth at a faster rate. Long term illness can actually make your hair fall out.
Vitamins
- If you take vitamin supplements you'll have faster hair growth. This goes back to being healthy. Once your body has everything it needs your metabolism will be fired up.
Diet
- Eat natural, fresh foods that have a lot of vitamins, minerals and high quality protein to help your hair grow faster and stronger.
- Diets that don't have protein and essential oils are culprits of hair loss and thinning. On the other hand, overeating protein and sugar makes hair brittle and prone to breakage. Always be careful with your diet.
Age
- Your hair grows faster when you’re young. As you get older, metabolism and hair growth slows down. You might also notice thinner hair with age because your hair growth cycle shortens.
Hair Growth Rates And Length Potential
Hair can grow from a quarter inch to as much as one inch a month. The maximum length your hair will grow depends on your growth rate and the length of your hair growth cycle.
I never knew my type 4a hair could grow past my shoulders until I started taking care of it.
When I started doing the right things for hair growth it grew to mid-back. I found out that my hair grows half an inch per month and has a three year growth cycle.
