Hair Growth Cycle
Understanding your hair growth cycle and is the key to breaking through the myth that black hair doesn't grow.
Mastering it will get your hair to lengths you never thought were possible.
Every single hair on your head goes through 3 stages of growth. The growth phase (anagen), the rest phase (catagen) and the shedding phase
(telogen).
1. Anagen (Growth) Phase - This is the phase that you should be most concerned about improving if long hair is your number one goal. The growth phase usually lasts
2 to 6 years in most people and is controlled by your genetics.
That means that if your hair grows an average of 1/2 an inch every
month and you have a growth phase of 3 years you can expect your hair to grow to be 18 inches long....if you find a way to
keep what grows!
2. Catagen (Rest) Phase - The rest phase starts when your hair has reached the end of the growth phase. During this week or two rest phase your hair doesn't grow, but
it doesn't fall out either.
3. Telogen (Shedding) Phase - In this last phase, the root of your hair starts growing a new hair which forces the old one to fall out. If you have a normal
hair telogen phase you are losing about 100 hairs every day.
At any given point in time about 90% of your hair is in the growth phase and 10% is in the rest and shedding phase. If your hair is thinning
it means that your growth phase has slowed down and your shedding phase is increasing.
How to Maximize Your Hair Growth Cycle
The way to maximize your hair's potential length is to make sure that your growth phase is as active as possible. Another concern is keeping as much of
your growth as possible on your head. Here are some tips for maximizing and making the most out of your hair growth cycle.
Maintain Your Health
A healthy body produces hair at a faster rate than an unhealthy one. Make sure that you make every effort to keep fit and you'll be rewarded with the
longest and fastest growth phase that your body can produce.
Eat Right
Your hair needs the vitamins, minerals and proteins that a well balanced diet provides. A healthy diet is the source of a healthy blood
stream that brings a steady supply of nutrients to your scalp.
Take Supplements
There are many vitamins and minerals that your body needs to produce high quality hair growth that you are probably not getting from the food you eat. If you know your diet could be a lot
better, be sure to check out some of the best vitamins for your
hair growth.
Do Cardio Exercise
Your blood brings the nutrients you eat to your scalp through circulation. By doing cardio for 40 minutes 3-5 times a week, you're
ensuring that your circulation is at its best level. The maximum amount of nutrients will be delivered to your hair roots for faster hair growth!
Wear Protective Styles
Getting your growth phase to its maximum potential won't mean much if you aren't keeping the hair that you do grow. Wearing protective styles
will help you to retain as much of your new length as possible.
Stop Hair Breakage
Reducing or eliminating hair breakage
you may be experiencing is very important in realizing your hairs maximum growth potential. It will have your hair growth cycle going from a "grow, break, grow, break" pattern to a
