Do I Need To Use A Face Lotion Or Cream

Dear Camille,

Can I use the same lotion I use on my body on my face or not?

If not, can you also advise if it's o.k. to use skincare products containing SPF(Sun protection factor) on my face.

No and Yes (in that order) :)

Hi,
I wouldn’t use the same lotion for your body as you do on your face and here’s why.

The skin on our face is very different from the skin on our body for many different reasons.

- It’s much thinner
- It’s exposed to the sun more
- It’s more sensitive
- Produces more oil

Because of all these reasons the heavy lotions that we use to soothe and protect our dryer body skin will not work for your facial skin. Not to mention the dyes, perfumes and other additives in most regular body lotion have no place on your face.

Go for a lighter facial formulation that is good for your skin type. To answer your other question, not only do I recommend that you use a moisturizer with at least SFP 15, I insist!

Black skin needs just as much (if not more) sun protection as lighter skin. Use your sun protection faithfully everyday and you’ll be looking 16 even when you’re 60!
