A: Hi Quana,

A cap weave (aka quick weave) can definitely be a healthy styling option for your hair.

Basically what happens is that you add a cap base like the one in the picture to your head, and then you bond the extension hair onto that cap.

After you’ve done in you cut and style the hair the way you want it. That way you end up with a custom wig that you can take on and off and it looks totally natural (once you’ve used the right color and texture of hair.

The way to make a cap weave work for you is to keep you hair well taken care of underneath it.
That means keeping your hair moisturized, conditioned and braided underneath.

If you keep up a regimen where you wash your hair and deep condition with moisture and protein once or twice a week, as well as using a good leave in conditioner and a daily moisturizing spray you’ll see great gains in health and length in no time.
But you have to take care of your hair underneath. I can’t stress this enough.

Sticking your hair under a quick weave and leaving it at that isn’t going to do a thing for you.

It’s all about the care you give it in between. That’s what’s going to make the biggest difference in your hair.

Where Do You Buy Wave Caps?

I know that's kind of a dumb question but at the same time its not.

At Sally's beauty supply they don't have it. I probably have to go to a corner beauty supply right?

Not a dumb question at all and yes, if you don't find it at Sally's you can check any ethnic beauty supply and they should have it there.

And just my two cents here but in terms of shopping for ethnic hair care products I don't find Sally's to be the leader at all.

Usually these "corner shop" beauty supplies beats them hands down in selection and variety.

Washing Weave On A Cap?

I just recently got my hair done in a cap weave and I was wondering if you can wash your hair while it's in a cap and if so how? Is there a special way.

You can definitely wash your hair in a cap weave, the key is to get your scalp as clean as possible while not tangling and matting the hair.

The best way to do this is to really focus the shampoo and scrubbing on your scalp and let the water and suds rinse down the length of the hair.

Use diluted shampoo and apply it as close to your scalp as possible and also be sure to wash your hair in the shower instead of bent over in a sink.

Using a good detangler on the weave hair after the wash will also help prevent matting.

If you feel like you can't handle it go to the salon. Nothing will ruin a weave faster than a bad hair wash!

I was wondering if there was a way to part it you know to make it look more natural so you can see your scalp if that makes any sense?

It makes perfect sense.

The bad news is that because of the nature of the cap weave getting a part to look natural isn't going to be easy. Cap weaves are almost exactly like a full weave with closure. This means that your hair and scalp is 100% tucked away and there is nothing left out at all.
