Applying Perm To Hair With Glue In It

by Paulesha
(San Francisco)

Q: A lot of people tell me it's okay to perm my hair with old glue remains still on my hair. What are the risk if I perm my hair with glue in it?

A: A big part of getting a proper relaxer is having the perm creme spread evenly over the area of hair you're having straightened (which should only be the new growth). If a lot of glue is still in your hair you might run the risk of being under processed in certain areas where the perm couldn't get to your hair properly.

I'm not certain that there would be any reaction between weave glue and relaxer chemicals, but to be on the safe side I would remove ALL traces of the glue before the perm.
